Record temperatures and extended time off work means millions of Britons will spend more time in the pub with friends or at home in the garden with families.

The British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) says the unprecedented combination of two holiday weekends and the wedding will boost bar takings by an extra £600m, on top of the predicted £620m boost to retail sales, tourism and travel.

Britain’s largest chain, Punch Taverns, said about 80 per cent of its 6,500 pubs were having a Royal wedding event, such as a barbecue, to appeal more to families.
